              Class   5

Pronoun

Pronoun is a word that is used in place of a Noun.

For Example - I ,We, You, He, She, It, They etc.

Types of Pronoun

There are 4 types of Pronoun.

1. Personal Pronoun

2. Possessive Pronoun

3. Reflexive Pronoun

4. Emphatic Pronoun

Personal Pronouns

A personal pronoun is a short word we use as a simple substitute for the proper name of a person.
Each of the English personal pronouns shows us the grammatical person, gender, number, and case of the noun it replaces.

For Example -
I ,  we ,  you , he , she ,  it  , they  , me ,  us  ,  him  ,  her  ,  them.

Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns show that something belongs to someone.
For Example -
My ,  Our  ,  Your , his  ,  her ,  its  ,  their.

There's also an “independent” form of each of these pronouns: mine, ours, yours, his, hers, its, and theirs.

Reflexive Pronouns
Reflexive pronouns are words that  refer back to a person or thing. We often use reflexive pronouns when the subject and the object of a verb are the same.

For Example -
Myself ,  Yourself  ,  himself  ,   herself  ,  itself , ourselves  ,   yourselves   ,    themselves.

Emphatic Pronouns

An emphatic pronoun refers back to another noun (or pronoun) in the sentence to emphasize it.

For Example -

Yourself ,  Himself  ,  Herself   ,   itself  ,  ourselves  ,  yourselves ,  themselves

Difference between Reflexive and Emphatic Pronouns on the basis of their use -

A pronoun is a reflexive one if the action of the subject reflects upon the doer.

Emphatic pronouns, on the other hand, are used to just emphasize the action of the subject.

1. Myself
I accidentally cut myself.
I myself told him the story. (Emphatic)

2. Ourselves
We defeated ourselves in the game .
We ourselves were present in the party. ( Emphatic)

3. Yourselves
You created this drawing yourself.
You yourself blame him in the meeting.(Emphatic)

4. Himself
He cut his finger himself yesterday.
He himself went there yesterday. (Emphatic)
